Lord Ganesh, There are a number of stories about how Ganesh came to acquire an elephant head. Parvati created Lord Ganesh as a guard to stop Lord Shiva from barging into her private chambers. When Shiva was stopped by Ganesh, he beheaded the boy. To appease her, Lord Shiva beheaded an elephant and attached the head to Lord Ganesh's slain torso.
